Bleeding gums: Causes
The main cause of gum bleeding is inadequate removal of dental plaque that forms on the gum line, which creates a condition called gingivitis, or inflamed gums. When plaque is not removed through constant brushing and dental check, it hardens and turns into what is known as tartar, a condition that eventually causes increased bleeding and a more advanced form of gum disease and jawbone known as periodontitis. Improper brushing and misuse of dental floss can really traumatize the gum tissue causing irritation.
Therefore, it is important to follow the oral hygiene instructions for home practice, prescribed by the dentist in order to preserve the health of the oral cavity.
